Carmen Portinho

Editorial, Exhibition Design, Identity

An engineer, urban planner, feminist, and decisive figure in the history of MAM Rio, Carmen Portinho dedicated her life to designing a fairer country through culture, technology, and social emancipation. The exhibition brings together works that reflect her involvement in social housing, the feminist movement, and arts education, while also revealing her fundamental role in building the museum itself. In dialogue with the exhibition design by Juliana Sicuro and Gávea Arquitetura, the show presents a trajectory that pushed against professional and political boundaries, reaffirming the continued relevance of a woman who made the act of designing both a cause and an effect of transformation.
